I have dealt with a lot of crazy patients in my time, not to mention family members. This evening just really ate me up. I am pulling blood from my patients triple lumen and waste as usual. The patient’s family member sees me waste the blood. Then he starts to ask me why I did that. I take a few minutes and explain to him the best I can of why we waste. Another nurse then passes the room and the family member asks the nurse if wasting blood is a normal thing to do. This nurse also tells the family member why we waste blood. Apparently still very suspicious the family member asked the same question to the respiratory therapist. Apparently this person thought I was just exsanguinating their brother just for the hell of it and then lying about the procedure LOL I mean yeah that is just how I get my kicks by slowly draining my patients blood and putting it into a sharps bin WTF.
